Brake Free is a smart, ultra-bright helmet-mounted brake light perfect for motorcyclists and electric vehicle riders seeking safer night rides. Easy to install and use, it excels in brake detection, battery life, and visibility, though it’s pricier and bulkier than alternatives. Highly recommended for full-face helmet users prioritizing safety and innovative tech.

Who Will Love It:
Brake Free is designed for motorcyclists but it’s also perfect for portable electric vehicle enthusiasts like electric scooter, electric unicycle (EUC), e-skate, and Onewheel riders who like smart tech that will keep them seen and safe during night rides. UPDATE 12/2020: I interviewed Alex about a year ago for my YouTube channel and since then he has taken his product on Shark Tank! This innovative and smart safety product is a game changer for those who like to ride at night. What I think:
I’ve used Brake Free for over a year now and this product is excellent. If you ride at night and you wear a helmet, do yourself a favor and get one of these. It’s a well designed and thought out product that only has a few flaws. For something so smart, Brake Free is surprisingly easy to use. Out of the box, plug the Brake Free unit in to charge and while it’s charging, install the provided mount using the included template for perfect positioning. When it’s all charged up, just snap the Brake Free unit on to the helmet mount, power it on, and you are good to go. No additional wires. No cumbersome app. It’s that simple.
The lights and the modes on the Brake Free are the best in the game. I’ve tried other so-called “smart” lights that are a fraction of the price of the Brake Free but all of them are not very bright.
The lights on the cheaper alternatives are neither smart nor are they bright. The built in tech that operates those lights are mediocre whereas the smart sensors and algorithms on the Brake Free work seamlessly.
The Brake Free lights are the brightest in the game and as you can see in this video, it’s surprisingly good at knowing when to brake.
I also love that the lights are up near eye level for motorists to see which is much better and safer than the lights that are positioned low to the ground that you often see on electric scooters, EUCs, and Onewheels.
When I first met Brake Free founder Alex back at the end of 2019, the product was just finishing up it’s Indiegogo Campaign. Now they are featured on one of my favorite shows, Shark Tank!
After using the product for some time, here are my thoughts.

- Easy to use
- Great brake detection
- Very bright lights
- Good battery life
