Today we are reviewing the Ausom L2 Max Dual Motor, which is the cheapest 40mph electric scooter from a legit brand. Ausom is a new(er) electric scooter brand, and their lineup of 10 total scooters ranges from the 15.5mph Ausom GX1 for $499 up to the 45mph Ausom F1 Max for $1499. Today we’re focusing on one of their middle-of-the-lineup products, the Ausom L2 Max Dual Motor, which at the time of writing, is on sale for $899.

Ausom L2 Max – Basic Specs

Things We Love
NFC Card Reader: The Ausom L2 Max comes with an NFC card reader, and 3 unlocking keys. This is becoming pretty standard among higher-end scooters, and it’s great to see this feature making its way down towards budget scooters as well.

Dual Motor Button: The Dual Motor button, labeled “DDM”, lights up red when it is pressed. There is also an indicator on the display when you switch into dual motor. We have ridden so many scooters that give you zero indication anywhere if the scooter is in single or dual motor mode; you just have to get on it and ride, and judge by the acceleration which mode you are in. This is a nice feature we wish all electric scooters would implement.
Styling: We love the look of this scooter, especially the cool blue deck lights. For an $899 scooter ($799 for the smaller battery version), this looks and feels premium.

Phone Charge Ports: The Ausom L2 Max features both a USB-C and USB-A charging port for a phone on the stem of the scooter. Interestingly, these charge ports are facing forward, instead of towards the rider, meaning the charging cord will have to travel awkwardly around the handlebars to reach your phone while riding/charging.

Top Speed: The top speed of 40mph is fantastic for a <$900 scooter. We only hit 38mph in testing, but that was with a heavy rider and not quite fully charged scooter. Below is our acceleration times:

Things We Don’t Like
Turning Signals: While the inclusion of turning signals is appreciated, they are only in the rear, and they have no time-out feature, meaning you are very likely going to forget to turn them off and just have a left or right blinker on constantly while riding. This happens to me all the time on scooters that don’t have an auto time-out function for the signals.

Charging Speed: The 1.5A provided charger charges the 20.8Ah battery in around 14 hours, which is veryyyy slow. We wish they would include a fast charger, or two chargers (there are two charge ports on the scooter). You can always get your own aftermarket charger, but it would be a nice addition for an otherwise great value of a scooter.
The Freshly Charged Take
We definitely recommend this scooter for anyone wanting a budget-friendly 40mph commuter. The battery pack isn’t huge, but if your commute is on the shorter side, the Ausom L2 Max has extremely solid build quality, all the basic features + more, and is fun to ride.
