Begode Future: Budget-Friendly Beginner Electric Unicycle

Begode Future

by David Eastley

Freshly Charged is back in the saddle, and this time we’re taking a close look at the Begode Future, a name that sparks… well, not exactly high-performance imagery, but rather a sense of practical, everyday usability.

The Begode Future has been buzzing around as an entry-level option, promising a gateway into the world of EUCs without breaking the bank. Think of it as the reliable sedan of the unicycle world – dependable, functional, and won’t leave you stranded (hopefully!). So, does the Future live up to its reputation as a great starter wheel, or is it stuck in the past? Let’s charge into the details.

Watch our video review here.

First Impressions: Simple and Solid

Unboxing the Begode Future, the aesthetic is straightforward and functional. It doesn’t scream “high-tech marvel” like some of its flashier cousins, but it exudes a sense of sturdy practicality. At around 37 pounds, it’s not featherlight like maybe the Mten3 or Mten4, but it’s manageable enough for most beginners. The 15-inch tire gives it a grounded stance, hinting at the stability it aims to provide.

Setting it up is as simple as inflating the tire and powering it on. There’s no fancy app-driven activation process here – just good ol’ fashioned on/off. This simplicity can be a breath of fresh air for those who prefer a less tech-intensive experience right out of the gate.

Tech Specs That Keep it Real: Focused on the Essentials

The Begode Future keeps the tech focused on the necessities for learning and basic commuting:

  • Top Speed: Around 15 mph (24 km/h)
  • Max Range: Approximately 10-15 miles (16-24 km)
  • Battery: 375Wh
  • Motor Power: 800W
  • Wheel Size: 15 inches
  • Weight: Approximately 37 lbs (16.8 kg)

These specs clearly position the Future as an entry-level or short-commute wheel. It’s not built for speed demons or long-distance adventures, but rather for building confidence and tackling shorter journeys. The 800W motor provides enough torque for gentle inclines and getting you moving, while the 15-inch tire aims to deliver a stable platform for new riders.

Riding Experience: Stability First, Frills Later

Stepping onto the Begode Future, the first thing you notice is the stability offered by the wider 15-inch tire. This is a significant confidence booster for beginners who are still finding their balance. The power delivery is smooth and predictable, making it easy to get a feel for how the wheel responds.

We took the Future around our usual testing grounds, sticking to bike paths and relatively flat surfaces. It handles these environments with ease, providing a comfortable and confidence-inspiring ride. Practicing basic maneuvers like turning and riding backward felt manageable, thanks to the stable platform.

However, pushing the speed beyond its comfort zone reveals its limitations. It’s not designed for high-speed carving or tackling steep hills with gusto. Think of it as a comfortable cruiser rather than a performance machine.

One notable downside we encountered aligns with what others have reported: the headlights. While listed as dual 2,000 lumen, they perform more like a dim flashlight. Night riding will definitely require additional lighting solutions.

Standout Features: Simple Functionality

The Begode Future keeps the features straightforward:

  • Wide 15-inch Tire: Prioritizes stability, crucial for beginners.
  • Durable Construction: The wheel feels solid and built to withstand the inevitable bumps and falls that come with learning.
  • Rear Taillight/Battery Indicator: A stylish and functional rear light that doubles as a visual battery level indicator, a clever touch since there’s no dedicated display.
  • Configurable Alarms and Tilt-Back: Basic safety features to warn riders of overspeeding.

Areas for Improvement: Where the “Future” Could Be Brighter

Despite its merits as a beginner wheel, the Begode Future has a few areas where improvements would be welcome:

  • Lack of Trolley Handle: At 37 pounds, carrying the Future when not riding can become tiring quickly. The absence of a trolley handle is a significant drawback for portability.
  • Underwhelming Headlights: The advertised lumen output is far from reality, making dedicated auxiliary lights essential for nighttime riding.
  • No Onboard Display: While the taillight battery indicator is functional, a small display for speed and battery percentage would be a valuable addition.
  • Weight: While manageable for beginners, it’s still on the heavier side compared to some smaller entry-level options.

Who is the Begode Future For?

The Begode Future is squarely aimed at:

  • Beginners: Its stable platform and manageable power delivery make it an excellent choice for those new to electric unicycles.
  • Budget-Conscious Riders: At around $799, it offers an accessible entry point into the world of EUCs.
  • Casual Riders: Perfect for leisurely rides around the neighborhood, short commutes, or practicing fundamental riding skills.

It’s not the ideal choice for experienced riders looking for high performance, long-distance capabilities, or those who frequently need to carry their wheel long distances.

The Verdict: A Solid Foundation for Your EUC Journey

The Begode Future lives up to its reputation as a reliable and affordable entry-level electric unicycle. Its focus on stability and ease of use makes it a fantastic starting point for anyone curious about the world of one-wheeled electric transportation. While it lacks some of the bells and whistles of higher-end models and has a few notable shortcomings, its core functionality and durable build make it a compelling option for beginners and casual riders on a budget.

Think of the Begode Future as your trusty first car – it might not be the fastest or the fanciest, but it will get you where you need to go and teach you the fundamentals along the way. Once you’ve mastered the Future, the sky (and your budget) is the limit for your EUC adventures!
