LiveWire

Established as a standalone brand by Harley Davidson in 2021, LiveWire is an American electric motorcycle manufacturer focused on urban mobility and performance oriented EV motorcycles. The company originated from Harley Davidson’s earlier electric vehicle development program, which began with the launch of the original LiveWire motorcycle concept in the late 2010s. LiveWire later became a separate publicly traded company, while continuing to maintain strategic and manufacturing ties with its parent organization.

The brand’s product lineup centers on fully electric motorcycles designed for city commuting and short to medium distance recreational riding. Models such as the LiveWire ONE and S2 series emphasize rapid acceleration, connected software features, and DC fast charging capability, positioning the company within the premium segment of the electric motorcycle market. In recent years, the company has also expanded into lightweight electric two wheel products and platform sharing partnerships with other mobility manufacturers. LiveWire’s market identity is shaped by several defining characteristics:

  • Performance Focus: The brand prioritizes acceleration handling and responsive power delivery over long distance touring capabilities
  • Urban Positioning: Most motorcycles are designed around city commuting and shorter range riding environments rather than traditional cross country travel
  • Technology Integration: Products incorporate mobile app connectivity rider assistance systems and over the air software updates
  • Premium Pricing: LiveWire motorcycles generally compete in the higher end EV motorcycle category, often at prices above many conventional gasoline powered alternatives

Within the electric mobility industry, LiveWire is recognized for combining traditional motorcycle design influences with modern EV technology, though its limited charging infrastructure compatibility and relatively high pricing remain recurring points of discussion among reviewers and riders alike.

The LiveWire S2 Alpinista is Harley-Davidson's electric sport bike, and Andrew reported it to be one of the most fun motorcycles he has ever ridden after a full day in the Colorado mountains. The 84 horsepower, 194 lb-ft motor launches the bike to 60 mph in 3 seconds, the Brembo M4.32 front brakes are exceptional, and the traction control system will catch an accidental wheelie before the rider even has to react. At $12,999 with over the air software updates that added reverse mode and roll forward regen braking post purchase, the value case is strong. The hard limits are range — 50 to 60 miles when riding hard — and Level 2 only charging that takes up to 142 minutes for a full top up, which makes this a compelling city bike rather than a long distance tourer.
