Husqvarna

Founded in 1689 as a weapons foundry in Sweden, Husqvarna is one of the world's oldest continuously operating companies. While its historical production has included items ranging from sewing machines to motorcycles, the modern brand is primarily defined by its specialization in outdoor power equipment for forest, park, and garden maintenance.

The company’s modern era is marked by a transition from traditional internal combustion engines toward battery-powered and autonomous technologies. Husqvarna is widely recognized for pioneering the commercial robotic lawn mower market with the 1995 launch of the "Automower." Its current product trajectory involves scaling these technologies for industrial use, evidenced by the CEORA series—large-scale autonomous mowers designed for sports turf and public spaces—which utilize satellite-based EPOS (Exact Positioning Operating System) to eliminate the need for physical boundary wires.

Husqvarna’s market positioning is defined by several key strategic factors:

  • Robotic Leadership: The brand maintains a dominant market share in the robotic mowing sector, offering solutions for both residential small-scale yards and expansive commercial properties.
  • Professional Grade: A significant portion of the catalog is engineered for high-frequency professional use, prioritizing mechanical durability, ergonomics, and serviceability in demanding environments.
  • Fleet Management: The "Fleet Services" platform allows commercial operators to track and manage large inventories of connected tools via cloud-based monitoring and maintenance scheduling.

In a professional context, Husqvarna is regarded as a benchmark for performance in the outdoor power equipment industry. While the brand is undergoing a significant pivot toward electrification and software-integrated robotics, it maintains a legacy portfolio of traditional fuel-powered equipment. This dual focus positions the company as a bridge between legacy mechanical tool design and the emerging era of autonomous property management.

The Husqvarna Automower 450X NERA is a robotic lawn mower designed for large-scale maintenance of areas up to 5,000 m² and is capable of navigating slopes with an incline of up to 50%. A primary feature of the NERA series is its compatibility with the Husqvarna EPOS Plug-in Kit, an optional accessory that enables satellite-based navigation for wire-free virtual boundaries with a reported precision of 2–3 cm. The unit utilizes a cutting system composed of three pivoting razor blades with an adjustable cutting height ranging from 20 to 60 mm. For obstacle management, the 450X NERA is equipped with built-in radar technology to detect and avoid objects on the lawn, supplemented by GPS-assisted navigation and 4G/Wi-Fi connectivity via the Automower Connect app. Operational technicalities include the TargetHeight function for automated cutting height reduction, a weather timer that adjusts mowing frequency based on grass growth, and a 195-minute typical mow time per 40-minute charge cycle. The mower weighs 15.0 kg and maintains a measured sound level of 60 dB(A).
