Engwe LE20

Engwe LE20 Cargo E-bike – Incredible Value, Funky Looks

by Nathan Schaumann

The Engwe LE20 is a rather odd E-bike, but it packs a lot of features into a budget-friendly price (currently $1249). Promotional photos show the bike can easily fit two small passengers in addition to the driver, as well as options to add a basket and a second battery. Keep reading for more specifics on Engwe’s latest e-bike offering.

Things We Like

Value: Like the spec sheet rightly shows above, the Engwe LE20 offers a lower price point with a larger battery, similar motor and design, and faster charge than it’s main competitors the Lectric XPedition and Aventon Abound (see our respective reviews here and here). It’s impressive that Engwe is able to deliver so much for such a low cost.

Dual Battery Option: If you add the dual battery, Engwe claims a range of 211 miles, which is just nuts (and is more than a Nissan Leaf). The extra battery costs an additional $300, but if you need to commute for weeks on end without charging, it might be just the bike for you.

Things We Don’t Like

Heavy: Weighing over 80 lbs, this bike is heavy. With accessories it could easily top 90 lbs, and this bike isn’t one we’d want to have to lift up stairs, load in a car, or even load onto a bike rack with any frequency.

Small Tires: The small tires don’t do nearly as good of a job at absorbing bumps as larger tire bikes like the Velotric Nomad 2 or the Aventon Level 3. The front suspension also doesn’t quite make up for it, and the resulting ride is rather bumpy.
