The Heybike Mars is folding fat tire eBike at a very economical price. The Heybike Mars has features of competing bikes that cost twice the price tag, but at what sacrifice? In this review, we are going to tell you what we love and hated about the Heybike Mars.

10 things I love about the Heybike Mars Folding Ebike
- Folds in half
- Shimano components
- Quick throttle response
- Tall and adjustable handlebars
- Budget friendly
- Fat tires
- Looks like bikes twice the price
- Blacked out
- Battery doubles as a power bank
- Red rim tape
For under $1000, I’m impressed with all the features that the Heybike Mars packs in. I love that it folds in half, has Shimano components, and doesn’t have the lag in the cadence sensor that I find in other ebikes like the otherwise rugged Aventon Aventure.
The Heybike Mars looks sleek with the 20″ x 4.0 Puncture Resistant Fat Tire and red rim tape accentuating the blacked out appearance.
I did find that I liked using the removable battery as a USB power supply if I need to power my devices on the go or as an emergency power supply.
For a casual cruiser, the Heybike Mars performs well and will get you from point A to point B. The folding aspect allows you to more easily transport the bike and store it when not in use.
From the initial appearance of the Heybike Mars, you expect it to cost much more than the current $999 price tag.
Overall, the Heybike Mars is an excellent budget buy, but it does have its flaws.
5 things I hate about the Heybike Mars Foldable Ebike
- Can’t use throttle unless you’re in PAS 0
- Front suspension is weak
- Needs better quality control
- Fenders are cheap
- Pedals get loose
My biggest gripe with the Heybike Mars is that you can’t use the throttle when you are in any of the peddle assist modes. You can only use the throttle when you have the PAS level at 0.
This may seem like no big deal, but oftentimes I want to be in a peddle assist mode and use the throttle simultaneously or I just want to use the throttle to get going, especially when starting from the stopped position and trying to ride up an incline. However, if you are in any peddle assist mode, the throttle won’t work.
If I come up to a stop sign or light, especially if it’s going uphill, I have to turn PAS to 0, use the throttle, start moving, adjust PAS to 1-3, and then start peddling. It is cumbersome, to say the least.
Another major issue I had with the bike is the front suspension bottoming out going off of curbs. Currently, I weigh 195 lbs, so if you are lighter, you may not have this issue. For heavier riders, the front suspension isn’t going to cut it if you plan on riding anything but smooth roads and paths.
Initially, we had issues seating the battery into the bike. Luckily, Jimmy and I are pretty handy so we were able to figure it out. I can imagine people returning the bike for minor issues. This is simply a quality control issue that is to be expected with budget products from China.
When you ride, keep some tools on you, because the pedals can get loose. It would stink to call an Uber, because you didn’t have tools and the peddle fell off the bike. You could always throttle home, but you wouldn’t have anywhere to rest your feet.
You will also want to find a way to keep the bike upright when transporting it in your vehicle. If the bike falls over when in the back of your SUV, it can end up bending the plastic fenders.
Who Should Buy the Heybike Mars Foldable Fat Tire Ebike?
If you are limited on space at your house or want an affordable ebike that you can fold and fit in the trunk of your car, the Heybike Mars is an excellent option.
The Heybike Mars is a great entry level fat tire ebike that has a low frame, so if you have mobility issues, it is easy to step over. This is a great option for older riders looking to get an ebike to go out and explore and travel with.
If you are on a budget, the Heybike Mars is one of the most affordable folding ebikes out there.
Who should avoid the Heybike Mars foldable fat tire ebike?
If you are looking for a bike that feels like a traditional bike, the Heybike will not give you that feeling.
If you are on the heavier side above 200 lbs, I don’t expect the Heybike Mars suspension to hold up unless you never take it off of curbs.
If you want something that is more refined, you should expect to pay a little more and look at other folding bikes that cost a tad bit more.
