Nosfet Apex – Introducing Nosfet

by Nathan Schaumann

Nosfet is a brand-new EUC manufacturer, and the Nosfet Apex is their very first wheel. It aims to compete in the performance-class of EUCs, offering a 55mph top speed and 50 miles of range, for a price tag of $3499. In this review we’ll go over the basic specs and features, things we love/hate, and our overall take on this wheel.

Currently this wheel is available for pre-order on Alien Rides, with a $1000 deposit required and the first shipment of wheels expected in late January.

Things We Love

Suspension: The Nosfet Apex suspension has high degree of customizability. This wheel is also marketed as a “jumping wheel”, and the combination of robust suspension and light weight will help it perform excellently on trails. However, there are some issues with the suspension that we will get to in the “room for improvement” section.

Durability: Nosfet advertises on their website that both the kickstand and the mudguard function as sort of a “crumple zone”, and are designed to absorb the force of an impact. It’s rare to see dedicated crumple zones on EUCs, but we absolutely love this feature.

Room For Improvement

Suspension: The Nosfet Apex has two different options for suspension; the 205×62 air shock, which has 7 position settings, ranging from 55-150mm of suspension travel, or the 210×61 coil shock, which has 6 position settings in the same travel range. This wheel has been touted as an all rounder wheel with special capabilities in the jump park and trail avenues. Unfortunately, the stanchion tubes on this EUC aren’t well sealed in the first batch (they have a dust seal but not an oil seal), and we have seen several people with significant oil leakage from their stanchion tubes which require cleaning between every single ride, so we hope to see this improved.

Firmware: One of the biggest challenges for a brand new EUC company isn’t the hardware, but the firmware that makes the wheel work well. Nosfet has been working with consumer feedback and has already made several changes to improve what originally was a somewhat iffy firmware experience. However, we’d still like to see better pedal stabilization, since this is a jumping wheel, and the addition of CRA would help this to perform better off-road.

Trolley Handle: It doesn’t appear that this wheel has a trolley handle, which is an extremely useful feature especially for heavier EUCs. We hope future iterations of this wheel come with a trolley handle, or some easy way to move it around at walking speed. We have found a couple people make aftermarket trolley handles for the Apex, like the one featured in this video.

Price: There are multiple other wheels on the market with similar specs but a lower starting price, such as the Begode X-Way. We think this wheel would be a more attractive offering if they knocked $500 off the price.

The Freshly Charged Take

Overall, this looks like a solid first wheel for Nosfet. We’re excited to see where this company goes next. They have already introduced their second wheel, the Nosfet Aero, which aims to compete with the Begode Falcon in the mid-size market.
