Looking for an affordable electric dirt bike? Meet the Rawrr Mantis X — the most budget-friendly e-dirt bike we’ve reviewed! With a 72V battery and a 3000W motor (peaking at 6500W), this beast can hit speeds up to 50 mph. At this price, we had our doubts, but after testing it thoroughly, we can confidently say it’s worth every penny. In this review, we’ll walk you through the features, full specs, and share what we love about the Mantis X and a few areas for improvement. In an upcoming review we’ll also be comparing it to the slightly smaller (and cheaper) Mantis Mini.

Things We Love
Price: It’s pretty tough to beat the price of the Rawrr Mantis X. At $2999 (or $2899 with coupon code FreshlyCharged), this handily beats out Segway, Surron and Talaria for most affordable e-dirt bike. On top of that, it runs a 72V system, is larger than most e-dirt bikes, and has a much thicker and more grippy seat.
Theft Prevention: We really love the theft-prevention feature they added to the Rawrr Mantis X: a steering column that locks in place. If someone wants to steal the bike, they will have to lift it instead of rolling it away, because the steering column locks in the left-turn position when you remove the key.
Suspension: The Mantis X has fantastic suspension, and can be adjusted within a very wide range, making this suitable for almost any weight of rider. The Surron suspension doesn’t have a setting nearly tight enough for heavier riders going over bumps, but the Mantis X absolutely nails it. Andrew was able to go over large jumps and down flights of stairs without bottoming out.
Chain Drive: While most Surron owners have to replace the belts from time to time, the direct-chain drive of the Rawrr Mantis X is a much more durable design, and likely won’t need to be replaced for thousands of miles.
Tires: The Mantis X tires are perfect for off-roading. They grip extremely well, and can take you up steep angles whether the terrain is gravel, mulch or dirt without sliding out. The one drawback is braking when riding on the street: the knobby tires coupled with the hard compound reduce braking performance significantly on pavement, but off-road this thing is a dream to ride.
E-Brake Quick Disconnect: Most e-dirt bikes don’t come with this feature, but the Rawrr Mantis X allows you to unplug the e-brake. This allows you to manage the throttle and brake at the same time, which is important for doing wheelies or complicated maneuvers over jumps.
What We Don’t Like
Riding Noise: Due to the direct chain drive plus the knobby tires, the Rawrr Mantis X is pretty loud. It’s considerably louder than a Surron or Segway dirt bike, which could be a good thing if you want to be more noticeably present on roads amongst traffic.
Light Buttons: These light buttons feel like something you would see on a $350 electric scooter, not a $3000 electric dirt bike. They feel cheap, are made of plastic, and will probably be one of the first things to break on the Mantis X. Also, the light itself could be much brighter for safe night riding.
Rear Light: There is no rear or brake light on the Mantis X at all. If you’re mainly riding off-road trails during the day this isn’t really a problem, but for street riding adding some aftermarket lights is a must.
Stickers: Rawrr went a little overboard with the branding on the Mantis X – there are literally dozens of stickers everywhere on the bike, from the inside of the spokes, to the fenders, to the shock forks – and what’s more, the stickers themselves are pretty poor quality. Our main sticker on the frame already started to peel off after less than a day of riding.
Bottom End Torque: The bottom end torque on the Rawrr Mantis X is definitely not as snappy as other dirt bikes. This can be fixed with controller modification, but that voids the warranty. There is a Rawrr app coming soon, and hopefully you will be able to modify acceleration settings in the app.
The Freshly Charged Take
If you’re on a budget and you don’t want to spend more than $3000, you’re not going to find any electric dirt bikes out there at that price point that come anywhere close to the quality of the Rawrr Mantis X. With a 72V system, huge amounts of power and traction, and adjustable suspension, this bike is a do-it-all machine. Additionally, if you want something that feels more like a traditional dirt bike and less like a Surron, the Mantis X is definitely the bike for you.
