Bee Cool Adventurer Fat Tire Ebike with Full Suspension in Army Green on the Beach

Bee Cool Adventurer Ebike Review

by freshlycharged

The Bee Cool Adventurer electric bike joins a crowding market of fat tire ebikes but it has some pretty neat features at an affordable price. Bee Cool started their company offering two ebikes, the Adventurer and Explorer. The Adventurer and Explorer are full suspension fat tire ebikes at a budget price. Their two bikes are becoming popular, so they have decided to release 4 new bikes: Challenger, Rambler, Pathfinder and Pathfinder Step-Thru. In this review, we will tell you who we envision the Adventurer is for, and what we love and hate about it. Click here for the current pricing on the Bee Cool Adventurer Ebike.

Top things I love about it

  • Army Green Color
  • Fast
  • Large battery
  • Twist throttle
  • Full suspension
  • Fat tires
  • Shimano components
  • Comes with matching rack

What colors does the Bee Cool Adventurer come in?

My favorite thing about the Bee Cool Adventurer is the unique green color it comes in. The green reminds me of an Army Green, and I have yet to see an ebike in this color. Jimmy likes it because it reminds him of the Warthog from the Halo video games. The Bee Cool Adventurer comes in green and black. The Bee Cool Explorer is like the Adventurer but is a mid-step through frame and comes in white, orange, and red.

Does the throttle on the Bee Cool Adventurer have a delay?

I am pleased to say the throttle on the Bee Cool Adventurer is extremely responsive and there is no delay. With a twist of the throttle, the bike immediately responds and picks up speed quickly. One issue I have with the Aventon Aventure ebike which we have reviewed, is the delayed throttle response.

What size is the battery on the Bee Cool Adventurer?

The Bee Cool Adventurer features a 48V 21Ah battery. The battery is on the larger size because many competitors have 15Ah batteries or smaller, like the Aventon Aventure and Mod Bike Collection. The Bee Cool Adventurer and Explorer both have a 21 Ah battery.

What type of throttle is on the Bee Cool Adventurer?

The Bee Cool Adventurer has a twist throttle. On an ebike, I prefer a twist throttle because it reminds me of riding a motorcycle and feels natural. A thumb throttle works fine but it can become uncomfortable over time.

What type of suspension is on the Bee Cool Adventurer?

The Bee Cool Adventurer features front and rear hydraulic suspension. The rear suspension states it has 180 mm of travel, which I don’t believe is accurate. Whatever the suspension travel is, it make for a comfy ride. The full suspension is great to have, but I am not going to replace my full suspension mountain bike with it.

What size are the tires on the Bee Cool Adventurer and Explorer?

The Bee Cool Adventurer and Explorer feature 26″ x 4″ all terrain fat tires. The fat tires combined with the full suspension make for a plush ride on various terrains. There isn’t a lot of terrain that the Bee Cool Adventurer can’t tackle.

What type of shifter and derailleur does the Bee Cool Adventurer have?

The Adventurer and Explorer features a Shimano SL-TX50-7R 7-speed thumb shifter and Shimano 7-Speed Tourney derailleur. I prefer Shimano components on budget ebikes over other brands like Sun Race because they shift smoother. However, they are still entry level Shimano components.

Does the Bee Cool Adventurer come with a rear rack?

The Bee Cool Adventurer and Explorer come standard with a rear rack. The best part is the rear rack comes in the same color as the bike, making blend in seamlessly. Some bikes, like the Aventon Aventure, make you purchase the rear rack separately. Other ebikes like the Heybike Mars or Mod City+ come with a rear rack, but they are a different color. The only ebike we have encountered with a matching rear rack is the limited edition orange KBO Breeze. When you order the orange KBO breeze, only a select few receive the limited edition all orange. Top things I hate about the Bee Cool Adventurer Ebike

  • Fenders bent and don’t match up
  • Decent packaging but FedEx is terrible
  • Peddle assist delay
  • Can’t lock display in place
  • Front suspension is easy to bottom out
  • Lights are terrible

A little off

It’s nice to have metal fenders over plastic ones. However, I couldn’t get my fenders to line up straight with my tires. In addition to the fenders being off-centered, the battery placement is not centered making it stick out on the left side of the frame slightly.

Packaging sucked…but it has been improved

When we received the Bee Cool Adventurer, the box was in poor shape. One side of the box was completely ripped open and there wasn’t much foam. The great news is Bee Cool has improved their packaging tremendously, but FedEx is still awful, and there have still been reports of ebikes damaged with the updated packaging.

Does the pedal assist on the Bee Cool Explorer have a delay?

The Bee Cool Explorer has a hub drive motor and cadence sensor. One thing that bugs me about cadence sensors is they typically have a delay in the peddle assist. The Bee Cool Explorer is no anomaly, and the pedal assist has a delay. When you pedal, it takes a second before the pedal assist kicks in. When you stop pedaling, the Bee Cool Explorer pedal assist will keep going for several feet before disengaging. The delay in response can be dangerous when you are riding in densely populated areas like Downtown Denver. If you are out in the open, the delay is nothing to worry about. The Heybike Mars is one of the few hub drive ebikes that does not have a delay with the pedal assist.

Display won’t stay put

No matter how tight you tighten the bolts on the display mount, the display will move up and down which is obnoxious. You could apply some teflon tape to help the display stay in place, but overall it is a poor design. On top of the poor mounting design, the display is black and white and looks like an old 1990s Seiko digital watch. It’s 2021 and the American public demands color. I am excited to check out their new bikes because they feature a color display.

Is the front suspension any good on the Bee Cool Adventurer?

The front suspension on the Bee Cool Adventurer is meh. The front suspension does the trick, but it’s not going to win any awards. I currently weigh 200 lbs, and I can bottom out the front suspension going off a small jump or giant curb. However, the front suspension is up to par with all the other budget ebikes.

Is the light on the Bee Cool Adventurer safe for night riding?

The simple answer is no. The lights on the Bee Cool Adventurer are awful. If you are doing a lot of night riding, you will want to look for a stronger light. The tail light and turn signal indicators are also very dim. Click here for the current pricing on the Bee Cool Adventurer Ebike.

Who is the Bee Cool Adventurer perfect for?

The Bee Cool Adventurer is perfect for someone seeking a do it all budget ebike. If you want to ride smooth pavement, but have the opportunity to take it on any trail you come across, the Bee Cool Adventurer is perfect for that. Whether its gravel, sand, or dirt, the full suspension and fat tires will make for a comfy ride. If you are on a tight budget but want the most features, the Bee Cool Adventurer price is hard to beat. If you want to ride ebikes but a hardtail feels too jarring on the back, the full suspension on the Bee Cool Explorer will help eliminate a lot of vibrations.

Who is the Bee Cool Adventurer not for?

When I first saw the rear suspension specs on the Bee Cool Adventurer, I felt like it could compete with my full suspension mountain bike. I had dreams of opening up the box, assembling the Bee Cool Adventurer, and launching it off of jumps. Within a few miles, I knew I wasn’t going to send the Bee Cool Adventurer off any jumps I normally would with my Trek Rail 7. The suspension is nice but it is designed for comfort not jumping. If you want the nicest and most refined ebike, the Bee Cool Adventurer is not what you are looking for. The Aventon Aventure is much more refined with the built-in frame tail light, smooth welds, color display, powerful headlight and beautiful lines. However, the Aventon Aventure‘s is more expensive, has a smaller battery, no rear suspension and no rear rack.
