Written Review

The EMOVE RoadRunner SE is Voro Motors' latest PEV, it is tied with the EMOVE Touring at $799 for their most affordable PEV, and just might also be their most practical PEV. We previously reviewed the EMOVE RoadRunner and the EMOVE RoadRunner Pro, but the RoadRunner SE slashes the price almost in half (compared to the base RoadRunner) and delivers the same quality, design, removable battery functionality and portability in a 30lb frame! Read on for more details on the RoadRunner SE, and for our opinion on whether or not you should buy this scooter.

Things We Love

Security Features: The Emove RoadRunner SE comes with a key ignition, making it impossible for a thief to ride the scooter away, and with a key-locked battery mount, making it impossible to remove/steal the battery. In order to steal and actually ride the scooter, one would have to purchase a new key ignition mechanism, and the battery would be stuck in there forever. A great theft deterrent!

Form Factor: The Emove RoadRunner SE is small, it's lightweight, it's portable, and it's great for people who don't like the standing experience of a typical electric scooter. Due to its size and weight, it is easy to maneuver and make sharp turns.

Cable Management: All of the cables are externally wrapped for easy modification and maintenance. This is a nice feature that makes this a perfect scooter for those looking to mod it to go faster. In fact, the aluminum frame is rated for speeds of up to 80 mph!

Weight: We are quite astounded at the weight of the Emove RoadRunner SE. The base RoadRunner weighs 55 lbs and the RoadRunner Pro weighs 114 lbs, so it's crazy how they got the weight down to 19 lbs (without battery) using the same frame and most of the same components. 19 lbs easily passes the "1-finger lift test" and would be super convenient to toss in the back of a car or bring on a train/bus.

Price: The EMOVE RoadRunners have a reputation of quality, and $799 is about the best price you'll find for a seated electric scooter of similar quality/features.

Upgraded Parts: Compared to previous RoadRunners, the SE's display has been upgraded, as well as the buttons, throttle, and reinforced pegs.

Seat: Though the RoadRunner itself is small, the seat is huge, and suitable for riders of varying heights. Anyone from kids that are 4 feet tall to 6 foot plus adults can enjoy this scooter and feel comfortable.

Room For Improvement

Suspension: While the RoadRunner SE does have front suspension, we'd like to see rear suspension as well, especially because on a seated electric scooter your knees can't help cushion any bumps or potholes.

Handlebar Folding: On previous editions of the RoadRunner, the handlebars were foldable for easier storage. This is not the case on the SE.

Speed Limiter: It's kind of weird to see a 14 mph speed limiter cable on a scooter that only goes 20 mph.

Speed Settings: It would be nice to have multiple speed setting options that you can toggle between with the click of a button. The Emove Roadrunner SE only has one speed setting, which takes you all the way up to 20 mph.

Power: 350W is not very powerful for an electric scooter motor, and the RoadRunner SE would be pretty much at the back of the pack when it comes to acceleration tests, top speed, or hill climbing. If you're looking for power, this is not your scooter. Also, we would not recommend this scooter for heavier riders.

Cheap Parts: Although many of the parts on the Emove RoadRunner SE feel premium, there are still some cheap parts, like the gasket / rubber cover on the stem.

Rear Light: The rear light isn't very strong, and is mostly covered by the seat. The turning signals are also difficult to see from the rear.

Battery: Although this is meant to be a budget-friendly scooter/bike, there are many scooters in the same price range that have much larger batteries. The Emove Touring and the Turbowheel Swift both cost $799 but come with 600+ Wh batteries.

Keys: We don't like how you need 2 keys for the scooter; one to turn the ignition, and one to remove/install the battery. It would be nice if there was just one key that did both jobs. Also, the placement of the ignition key isn't optimal, and can often get in the way of your wrist while adjusting the twist throttle.
