The Segway Myon is what happens when you stop building e-bikes like toys and start building them like vehicles. This isn't just a commuter; it’s a masterclass in refinement. Featuring industry-leading electronic shifting from Shimano and Segway’s proprietary TurboTuned™ torque sensor, the Myon eliminates the jerky, unrefined feel of standard e-bikes, delivering power that feels like a natural extension of your legs. It crushes hills with a peak output of 1500W and glides through the city with a stealthy, whisper-quiet confidence.

The Smartest Commuter You Can Buy? Segway Myon Review
Quick Take
The Segway Myon is what happens when a tech giant decides to stop playing games and build a serious, grown-up bicycle. It’s not chasing the highest top speed or the fattest tires; it’s chasing refinement. With electronic shifting, a shocking amount of torque for a 500W motor, and enough baked-in technology to make a Tesla jealous, this is the ultimate city cruiser for the rider who values brains over brute force.
If you want a raw, unrefined power-monster, look elsewhere. If you want a bike that feels like an extension of your body and practically rides itself, the Myon is a revelation.

What Is the Segway Myon?
Segway is pivoting. They aren't just shipping boxes to your door anymore; the Myon is sold exclusively through authorized local dealers. This means no warped rotors out of the box, no stripping bolts in your garage, and actual human support. It’s a step-through commuter designed for the urban jungle, featuring TurboTuned™ technology (marketing speak for a very sophisticated torque sensor setup) and integration with the Segway ecosystem (Apple Find My, GPS, and App tuning).
Performance: Don’t Let "500 Watts" Fool You
On paper, 500W sounds tame. In reality? This thing rips. We were shocked by the punch. The motor peaks at 1500W, meaning it feels much more like a 750W or 1000W bike (and yes, I know how crazy that sounds! I guess you'll have to ride it to find out what I'm talking about). Segway’s controller tuning is superb. It uses a blend of torque and cadence sensing to detect when you’re on a hill or starting from a dead stop, feeding you power exactly when you need it without that "lurchy" feeling cheap bikes have.
- Hill Climbing: It crushes inclines. We took it up steep grades in Denver, and it didn't even flinch.
- Throttle: It has one, but only in Class 2 mode. If you unlock Class 3 (28mph), the throttle is disabled. This is Segway playing "by the book" with federal laws. It’s annoying for enthusiasts, but technically correct. While I can't dive into details here (secret things from secret people), there are a few other major Ebike brands that are shifting to this methodology. If you want your "modified Class-3" Ebike setup, this might be one of the last years you can get that. Maybe in a few years we'll be meeting up in alleyways, trading these pre-2026 Ebikes, but maybe not. I'm not a fortune teller, just an Ebike guy.
The Electronic Shifting (Shimano Cues)
This is the standout feature for a bike under $2k. The Shimano Cues 9-speed system is electronically actuated. Why does this matter? It protects your drivetrain. If you try to shift while mashing the pedals up a hill, the system won't let you destroy the chain. It waits for the tension to drop before clicking into gear. It makes the ride incredibly smooth and will likely double the life of your chain and cassette. The way they accomplish this is with a custom electronic gearbox that actually is shifting by cable to the Shimano Cues derailleur. It's a pretty awesome hybrid setup that you don't have to pay an additional $400-$700 to install. One of the many standout features here.

Tech & Safety: Fort Knox on Wheels
Segway dumped its entire tech stack into this frame:
- Apple Find My & GPS: Built-in tracking. If someone moves your bike, you get a notification, the alarm screams, and the wheels lock up. As someone who tries to move these around the bike shop when they're locked, I will admit it is pretty loud, and often annoying (which means it has a good chance of deterring a would-be thief).
- Radar Compatible: The Myon supports the rearview radar (sold separately), which warns you of cars approaching from behind. For anyone who rides bikes regularly, you'll probably have a few moments where your life flashes before your eyes because of careless drivers. While the radar doesn't eliminate those drivers (that would probably be illegal), it does let you know when someone comes screaming up from behind you.
- Turn Signals: It has front signals integrated into the handlebars. They are bright and auto-cancel (thank God), which is a feature we haven't seen at this price point until now.

Ride Quality & Suspension
The ride is plush. The RST 80mm front fork is legit! It's not the top-of-the-line suspension we see on some bikes, but it didn't bottom out even with a 200lb rider bunny-hopping curbs. It’s quiet, composed, and paired with a stem that offers huge adjustability for rider height. Segway is also introducing a dropper post (coming later) that acts as a mobility aid, lowering the seat at stops so you can flat-foot the ground, then raising it automatically when you pedal. That is genius. It comes pre-wired for the post (so no messy installation/cable running). I've got a few customers who have installed dropper posts on various Ebikes, for many different use cases, and they go around proselytizing to others about how much they love them.

What We Love
- Electronic Shifting at this price point is a game-changer.
- Dealer Network Support: You buy it built, tuned, and ready. *cough* Houston, Texas *cough*
- Surprisingly Powerful: 85Nm of torque feels fantastic.
- Stealthy: The motor is whisper-quiet, even at 28mph.
- Safety Tech: Turn signals, brake lights, and comprehensive anti-theft.
- Quality Control: IPX7 waterproof rating and UL certification.

What Could Be Improved
- No Throttle in Class 3: We know it's the law, but we still miss it.
- Battery Aesthetics: The battery protrudes a bit awkwardly from the frame.
- Navigation: The turn-by-turn on the display is cool, but it fights with Google Maps on bike paths.
- Rear Rack: 55lb limit is decent, but a bit low for heavy cargo duty.
Who the Segway Myon Is For
The Myon is for the tech-savvy commuter who wants a reliable, low-maintenance machine. It’s for the rider who wants to track their bike like an iPhone, shift gears with a button, and never worry about a mechanical failure.
This is not for:
- Speed freaks who want to mod their bike to go 40mph.
- Riders who refuse to pedal (Class 3 restriction).
- People who want a cheap, disposable drop-shipped bike.

Final Thoughts
The Segway Myon is refined. That’s the word that keeps coming up. It doesn't feel like a collection of parts; it feels like a cohesive vehicle. For $1,999, you are getting tech that usually costs $4,000+. If you can live with the "by the book" throttle restrictions, this is arguably the best city commuter on the market right now.
