Last year we reviewed the Velotric Discover 2’s predecessor, the Discover 1, and were impressed by the aesthetically pleasing design, budget-friendly price tag, and solid build quality. Read our full review of the Velotric Discover 1 here.

What type of suspension is on the Velotric Discover 2?

The Discover 1 has hydraulic suspension in the fork with 80mm of travel. You can adjust the preload or engage the lock-out.

The suspension on the Discover 1 is nice and plush, making off-road trails feel like smooth pavement. Whether you are dropping curbs or riding terrain, you’ll be pleased with the quality hydraulic suspension on the Discover 2.

Stand out with your favorite color!

With 4 color choices, you should be able to find a color you love with the Velotric 1. Stand out with the Cherry Crimson or Mint, or stealthily ride around in the Pine Green or Stone Grey color. I love that all the batteries match the frame to create a seamless look.

The paint jobs look sleek and they have a nice glossy finish to make the bikes pop.

What type of brakes are on the Velotric Discover 2?

The Discover 1 features two-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm brake discs.

The brakes are unbranded but feel great and offer plenty of stopping power. The brakes use mineral oil and remind me of Tektro hydraulic brakes.

If you notice they are a little squeaky, try putting rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and cleaning the brake discs.

Where is Velotric’s customer service based?

Velotric’s website says their customer service team is in the US, but when I called I got a hold of a Filipino representative. Velotric ships bikes from a US warehouse and carry some parts. However, if you have a controller issue they need to send it from China which will take a while.

I have seen some people in Facebook forums complain they had issues with their Velotric bikes in warranty, and they are still waiting for them to be repaired. Most people are happy with their Velotric purchases but I have seen a decent amount of upset clients.

Velotric Discover 2 Pros

Power: With a 750W continuous-rating (peak wattage of almost 1100W), the upgraded motor is considerably more powerful than your average commuter bike. Hill climbing on the Velotric Discover 2 is even easier than on the previous Discover 1, which had a 500W motor peaking at 900W.

Pedal assist settings: The Velotric Discover 2 boasts fifteen pedal assist settings. The standard 1–5 levels combine with three different profiles: Eco, Trail, and Boost. These modes alter the power and delivery for various riding styles, providing a new feel and level of response.

Ultra-waterproof: Amazingly, the Velotric Discover 2’s battery can withstand being immersed in water up to a depth of several feet, based on its IPX7 rating. The rest of the bike can resist high-pressure water jets (something competitor brands warn against) thanks to its IPX6 rating.

Velotric Discover 2 Drawbacks

Considering the Velotric Discover 2’s potential weak spots is essential, as is doing so with any e-bike.

Weight: This bike weighs 63 lb (28.5 kg), making it somewhat awkward to lift. Putting it in a car or other heavy-duty vehicle can be a real challenge. When loading, it could be more convenient to raise the front wheel before the rear, rather than lifting the whole bike.

Handlebar Design: The Discover 2 features broader handlebars with a reverse bend. If you’re used to the thin, straight handlebars that are common on city commuter bikes, you could find this design uncomfortable.

The Freshly Charged Take

Aside from the few drawbacks we mentioned, the Velotric Discover 2 is, without a doubt, a top-notch electric bike. It has a powerful motor that’s easy to control. This makes the bike ideal for riding for fun as well as commuting.

You should get your money’s worth from this bike for a long time, thanks to its durable build and lengthy battery range.
