The electric moped e-bike space is heating up, with countless new models appearing on the market in the last few months. Super73 has historically led the way, but now there is a lot of competition, namely from this Super73 look-alike, the Yadea Trooper 01. The Yadea Trooper is an impressive e-bike, with a $1999 price point (compared to the Super73’s $4295). It comes with lots of great features like a built-in basket, a bright front light, eye-catching aesthetics, and a 750W motor with a lot of power. However, we didn’t like the lack of low-end torque, the non-adjustable seat height, or the somewhat messy cable management. Read on to see a full list of specs, and more reasons why we did/didn’t like this e-bike!

What we love about the Yadea Trooper 01
Aesthetics: The Trooper 01 looks great, and reminds us of the cafe racer bikes of the 60s and 70s.
Basket: We love that Yadea chose to fill the dead space in the frame with a basket. Unfortunately, the basket doesn’t have a cover, so on a bumpy ride things could easily fall out.
Light: We’ve tested a lot of e-bikes, and the Yadea Trooper has an excellent front light, especially compared to bikes under $2k.
Stability: Andrew was able to ride one-handed and even no-handed without any wobbling!
Suspension: Although stiff, the suspension performed nicely during our tests. It feels solid and is suited for heavier riders.
Brakes: The 2-piston tektro hydraulic brakes provide excellent stopping power, and performed better than those on most <$2k e-bikes we’ve tested.
Speed: We love that you can hit 32mph using throttle-only! This 750W motor performs better than some 1000W motors we’ve tested.
Pedals: Many e-bikes have plastic pedals that feel cheap and flimsy, but the Yadea Trooper boasts metal pedals that feel rock solid.
What we don’t like about the Yadea Trooper 01
Seat: We love the huge saddle, but we wish the seat height were adjustable.
Suspension: Even for Andrew, a larger rider, the rear suspension felt a little too stiff. For lighter riders it would definitely be nice to see adjustable suspension options.
Torque: Though the Yadea Trooper can cruise up to a speedy 32 mph, the low-end torque is seriously lacking. Andrew wasn’t able to throttle up a small bump when starting from a standstill. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed by a simple firmware update.
P-settings: We were able to remove the speed limiter using the p-settings, but when we did so, the speedometer became useless and only read 6 km/h, regardless of how fast we were riding. To measure speed we used Jimmy’s Veteran Lynx as he rode alongside Andrew.
Cable management: Unfortunately we weren’t impressed by the jumbles of cables that seem to be everywhere on this bike. Yadea could definitely do a better job to ensure that the cables are packed more neatly and closer to the frame of the bike.
Gears: Although you can shift gears while pedaling, the gear ratio is pretty useless for any speed above 12 mph. In reality, this is less of an e-bike and more of an e-moped, with the option to pedal if you run out of battery or want some exercise. The pedals definitely feel ornamental rather than functional for most use cases of this bike.
Horn: The horn is pretty weak, we hope this can also be fixed/addressed in a firmware update in the coming months.
