Rawrr Mantis Mini – A Surron Style Mini Bike For Ages 8-12

by Nathan Schaumann

The Rawrr Mantis Mini is the smallest bike that Rawrr offers. It is so small, in fact, that our friend Cody who weighs 100 pounds had a little bit of difficulty getting used to it. The Mini is positioned as an excellent first e-dirt bike for ages 8-12, and in this review we’ll cover all the pros and cons, and let you know if we think you should buy this for your son or daughter.

Also included in Rawrr’s lineup is the Mantis (the biggest bike), and the Mantis X which we reviewed on the channel last week.

Things We Love

Bottom-End Torque: The Mantis X, which we reviewed earlier, had a high top speed and good top-end torque, but accelerating from a standstill wasn’t nearly as thrilling as we were hoping. The Mantis Mini, however, has so much power on the low end that you can do a rolling burnout.

Aesthetics: The Rawrr Mantis Mini looks like a real e-dirt-bike, just miniature sized. This is a perfect option for younger kids to get excited about dirt biking, as it looks and feels like the real thing.

Portability: Unlike the full size Talaria or Surrons, the Rawrr Mantis Mini can easily be tossed in the back of an SUV for easy transport.

Shipping: The Mantis Mini arrived without any damage whatsoever, and it came on a full pallet with plenty of protective foam. We were overall impressed by the professionality of the packing job. Setup was also easier than expected, since the front tire came pre-installed.

Quick Disconnects: Nearly all of the cables come with quick disconnects, including the brake cables. Disconnecting this particular cable lets you do wheelies, while simultaneously manipulating the throttle and brakes.

Room For Improvement

Size: The Rawrr Mantis Mini is… really small. Even for Cody, a 100lb 5-foot 5 rider we invited to help us test ride the bike, it was too small, and not very ergonomical. The Mantis Mini is ideal for younger kids, who weigh less than 100 lbs. The seat is also too short, and positioned too far forward for wheelies and jumps.

Price: $2500 is a lot of money for a toy for young kids – you might as well spend the extra $500 and get the Mantis X, something they can continue riding as they grow to adult size.

Lack of Features: No keyed ignition, no steering wheel column lock – we wish the Mantis Mini would adopt some of the features on the larger Mantis X.

Suspension: The suspension is overall too soft, even for extremely light riders, and the front suspension is also not adjustable.

The Freshly Charged Take

This bike is perfect for an 80lb rider looking for their first e-dirt bike. It’s not as fancy or powerful as the Mantis X or regular Mantis, but it is a great intro to the world of dirt biking, and it’s compact size make it the most portable dirt bike ever!
