Historically, bikes with a high bar, step-over frame have been classified as “men’s bikes”, while bikes with a step-through frame are classified as “women’s bikes”. In more recent years this distinction has mostly gone away, as more and more men (like Jimmy) have discovered the utility and convenience in having an easy-to-mount, step-through bike with a more comfortable riding position. In this review we will examine the Lectric XPress e-bike, which comes in both the Step-Through and Step-Over frame styles.

Lectric XPress Step-Through
Step-Through bikes are great for shorter riders, older riders, any riders with mobility concerns, or any riders who don’t want to have to swing their leg around the back tire in order to mount the bike. Mounting a step-over bike with a rear rack or a passenger is even more challenging, requiring you to lift your leg up over the high bar.
Riding a step-through bike gives you a more natural riding posture, allowing you to sit up straight. This can be better for those with back issues, and is generally more comfortable for all riders. The Lectric XPress also features an adjustable stem, allowing you to change the height and angle of the handlebars to meet your preferred riding posture.
Lectric XPress Step-Over
For aggressive riders, the Lectric XPress Step-Over is your best option. If you like to hit jumps and drops, you need a more rigid frame, which is provided by the extra bar connecting the handlebars to the seat post. The straight handlebar (as opposed to the swept-back handlebar of the step-through bike) is also much more conducive to sharp cornering, faster riding, and a leaning-forward stance.
Step-Over bikes are also much easier to load onto bike racks, as usually the bike rack is designed to carry bikes by the high bar which step-through bikes are missing. The high bar is also useful for mounting accessories, such as a U-lock or a water bottle mount.
Step-Over bikes are typically lighter than their Step-Through counterparts, as they require less frae reinforcement with the naturally more stable design. The Lectric XPress Step-Over is only 1lb lighter than the Step-Through, but sometimes the difference can be as much as 5 or 6 lbs.
