Beatbot AquaSense 2 Review – A Wall-Crawling, Waterline-Scrubbing, Cord-Free Cleaning Beast

by Nathan Schaumann

We just got our hands on the Beatbot AquaSense 2, the world’s first 3-in-1 robotic pool cleaner with surface water parking. This device doesn’t just clean the pool floor and walls, it also scrubs the waterline and floats itself to the edge when it’s done. No hoses or cords just drop it in, and let it clean your pool for you.

In this review, we’ll tell you what we love (and what we don’t) about the Beatbot AquaSense 2, and whether it’s worth the price tag.

What We Love About the Beatbot AquaSense 2

Is the Beatbot AquaSense 2 Cordless?

Most robotic pool cleaners claim to be cordless, but you still have to deal with charging cables or retrieval hooks. The Beatbot AquaSense 2 is actually cordless, it features a wireless charging base and self-parking water-surface retrieval system that floats the unit to the edge when it’s done or low on battery. You don’t need to fish it out—just grab the handle and go.

What Surfaces Does Beatbot AquaSense 2 Clean?

This robot doesn’t just skim the bottom of your pool. It climbs walls in an efficient N-pattern, scrubs the waterline (and even a couple of inches above it), and follows an S-pattern across the floor. It’s also smart enough to climb over safety ledges and stairs in more complex pool layouts. During our testing, it had no problem clearing a fiberglass pool that hadn’t been cleaned in over a month.

Does Beatbot AquaSense 2 Have Ultrasonic Sensors?

There are 16 built-in sensors plus an ultrasonic sensor that help it learn your pool’s shape and avoid obstacles like jets and pumps. It did struggle slightly with protruding wall jets, but even then, it found ways to reroute and continue cleaning. It’s honestly kind of fun watching it figure things out.

Does Beatbot AquaSense 2 Have an App?

Initial setup was simple: plug in the charging dock, drop the robot on it, download the app, and pair via Bluetooth. You can control cleaning modes directly from your phone and even choose between full pool cycles or targeted floor/wall/waterline modes. You also get a “Park Mode” in case you want the bot to come up early so your kids can swim without it bumping around underwater.

What is the Beatbot AquaSense 2 Battery Life?

The Beatbot AquaSense 2 runs for up to 4 hours on a single charge thanks to a beefy 10,000mAh battery. Charging from empty takes about 4 hours. In our test, we got over 3.5 hours of runtime and still had juice left in the tank. It also automatically drains water before surfacing, which makes it even easier to lift (only 23 lbs).

What Types of Pool Can Beatbot AquaSense 2 Clean?

Whether you’ve got a fiberglass pool, vinyl liner, tile, or concrete, this bot has you covered. It uses soft rubber scrubbers and suction to clean without damaging delicate finishes. The IMR coating also protects the shell from UV damage—so leaving it out in the sun won’t fry it over time.

What We Hate About the Beatbot AquaSense 2

Does Beatbot AquaSense 2 Skim Surface Debris?

If you’ve got an uncovered pool in a leafy neighborhood, this robot alone won’t cut it. The Beatbot AquaSense 2 only handles the walls, floor, and waterline. It doesn’t skim leaves or floating bugs off the surface. For that, you’ll need to step up to the AquaSense 2 Pro or Ultra.

Does Beatbot AquaSense 2 Wireless Signal Work Underwater?

Bluetooth doesn’t work great through water. Once the robot is submerged, the app often can’t connect to it. That means you can’t use “Park Mode” while it’s deep underwater. This is more of a limitation of wireless tech in general than the robot itself, but it’s still a bummer.

Can Beatbot AquaSense 2 Avoid Obstacles?

If your pool has raised features like underwater benches, steps, or jets, the AquaSense 2 might occasionally get stuck or disoriented. In our tests, it handled a raised ledge surprisingly well but struggled near a water jet that prevented it from fully cleaning that area’s waterline.

What Comes in the Box?

  • Beatbot AquaSense 2 robot
  • Wireless charging dock
  • Power adapter
  • Retrieval hook (which you’ll probably never need)
  • Quick start guide + full instruction manual

What It Doesn’t Do

While the AquaSense 2 is incredibly capable, here are a few limitations to be aware of:

  • It doesn’t skim floating debris—get the Pro or Ultra if that’s important.
  • It can’t fully handle pools with overly complex shapes or crowded features.
  • You can’t control it wirelessly while it’s deep underwater.
  • Some minor manual cleaning may still be needed in trouble spots.

The Freshly Charged Take

If you fall into one of these categories, you’re going to love this thing:

  • Those trying to save time. If you’ve been wasting time scrubbing your pool or managing hose-based robots, the AquaSense 2 will feel like a luxury upgrade.
  • Smart home enthusiasts. With Bluetooth control, intelligent cleaning patterns, and a water-surface parking feature, this robot fits right into the modern automated home vibe.
  • People who value a clean aesthetic. No hoses, no cords, no external pumps—just a sleek little robot that disappears when not in use and emerges when you need it.
  • Pool perfectionists. If you hate seeing grime on the waterline or dirt collecting on the deep end floor, the AquaSense 2 keeps everything pristine with very little input from you.

The Beatbot AquaSense 2 is sleek, smart, and practically self-operating. It won’t replace a surface cleaner/skimmer, but for everything under the water, it can handle perfectly. The AquaSense 2 makes pool ownership easier and more enjoyable.

If you’ve got a mostly covered pool, this little robot is well worth the price tag. It’s not perfect, but it gets you about 95% of the way to a totally hands-off pool experience.
