ONEWHEEL RALLY XL SIDE PROFILE

Onewheel GT S-Series Rally XL Review – The Most Powerful Onewheel Yet

by Andrew N

The Onewheel GT S-Series Rally XL is here, and it’s the biggest, most powerful, and most expensive Onewheel ever released. Priced at $3,500, this premium board comes with upgraded battery technology, a larger frame, and a redesigned stance that promises a smoother and more confident ride.

We’ve been riding the Rally XL hard on trails, curbs, and steep inclines to find out if it’s worth the hype (and the price tag).

What is the Onewheel GT S-Series Rally XL?

The Rally XL is the latest flagship from Future Motion’s Onewheel lineup. It builds on the GT and GT S-Series with a longer frame, larger tire, and more powerful battery cells.

Key specs include:

  • Price: $3,500
  • Battery: New Molicel P50B cells (higher discharge, longer lifespan)
  • Tire: 23% more air volume than standard GT
  • Stance: Longer deck with recurved rails for a wider, lower ride
  • Weight: Heavier than past models, but balanced by the cushier ride

What’s New on the Rally XL?

1. Upgraded Battery Cells

The Rally XL runs on Molicel P50B cells, offering higher discharge rates, better cold-weather performance, and less voltage sag. These cells not only make the board more powerful but also extend its lifespan with slower degradation. Riders in cold climates will especially appreciate the consistent performance.

2. Bigger Frame & Tire

The “XL” name comes from the longer deck and larger tire. The tire holds 23% more air, giving a smoother ride over rough terrain, while the longer frame allows for a wider stance—perfect for snowboarders or taller riders who like more leverage.

3. Recurved Rails & Lower Center of Gravity

Future Motion redesigned the rails with a recurve shape and lowered the board’s center of gravity. This means more stability at speed, better carving control, and improved incline handling.

How Does the Rally XL Perform?

We tested the Rally XL across curbs, hills, and trails. Here’s how it handled:

Curb & Street Riding

Compared to the GT, the Rally XL had no problem climbing curbs slowly and smoothly. Torque delivery is instant and powerful, making technical riding more confidence-inspiring.

Hill Climb Test

This is where the XL shines. Steep inclines that the GT struggled with were conquered effortlessly by the Rally XL. We pushed it hard on dirt washes and steep park climbs, often without even hearing the usual Onewheel warning beeps.

Trail Riding

The Rally XL handles mixed textures like wood, rock, and dirt much better than previous models. Past boards often felt jerky over uneven terrain, but this one stays smooth and predictable, even on pump tracks and steep descents.

Is the Rally XL Comfortable to Ride?

Yes, this is the most comfortable Onewheel we’ve ever tested.

  • Wider stance gives better leverage.
  • More cushy tire smooths out rough terrain.
  • Lower rails reduce speed wobbles and give stability at higher speeds.
  • Concave footpads & grippy tape keep your feet locked in.

Even at speeds in the mid-20s, the Rally XL feels stable and snappy, inspiring more confidence than past Onewheels.

Where Could the Rally XL Improve?

For a $3,500 board, we think a few things could be better:

  • Bumpers are soft – they dent easily on impacts.
  • Rail guards and fender not included – we wish these came standard to protect your investment.
  • Clearance limitations – while power is incredible, the board’s geometry limits extremely steep climbs compared to EUCs (electric unicycles).
  • Long Name – they should have gone with just calling it the Rally XL instead of the GT S-Series Rally XL

Accessories & Customization

At launch, accessories are still catching up. Rail guards are just starting to roll out, but fenders are not yet available. Like past Onewheels, expect third-party companies to quickly fill the gap with custom guards, tires, and add-ons.

Is the Onewheel Rally XL Worth $3,500?

That depends on what you’re looking for.

  • If you want practical transportation, there are cheaper e-mobility options like the Segway Max G3 and Begode A2 that offer similar top speeds and range.
  • If you want the ultimate Onewheel experience—with the most power, the smoothest ride, and the most confidence-inspiring design yet…the Rally XL is unmatched.

For us, this board solves nearly every issue we’ve had with Onewheels in the past: more stability, better torque, better hill climbing, and a more comfortable stance.

It’s not just about the dollars, it’s about the experience, the community, and the fun. And for that, the Rally XL is absolutely worth it.

You can’t really test the Onewheel without the trademark nosedive.

Final Thoughts

The Onewheel GT S-Series Rally XL is Future Motion’s best Onewheel yet. It’s powerful, smooth, stable, and confidence-inspiring in ways that past models never quite achieved. While it’s pricey, it delivers on performance and opens the door to more challenging trails and steeper climbs.

If you’re a seasoned rider looking for the ultimate Onewheel, the Rally XL is worth every penny. Just make sure you suit up with proper safety gear because with this much torque and speed, confidence can sometimes outpace skill.
