Extreme Bull Griffin

Extreme Bull Griffin – A Veteran Lynx Copy or Something New?

by Nathan Schaumann

Extreme Bull is really good at one particular thing; copying the design of other companies’ EUCs and then making us do a double take to see if the imitation is actually better. The best example of this is the Extreme Bull Commander Pro, recalling the Sherman S design, and debatably doing it better.

In 2024, Leaperkim’s Veteran Lynx was an instant success—it had neither the best speed nor torque, but it still performed admirably and presented a balanced and high quality package. Like clockwork, the Lynx’s announcement was followed by an announcement by Extreme Bull—the Extreme Bull Griffin. The Griffin might not have attained the same level of accolades as has the Lynx, but it has proven itself to be quite an interesting EUC nonetheless. In this article, we’ll look at the Griffin and its specs, and tell you who we think this wheel is for.

Comparison with the Veteran Lynx

Looking at the specs, we are once again made to recall the Lynx. The battery is the same 2700Wh at an operating voltage of 151V, and the weight is comparable—92 pounds to the Lynx’s 88. However, the Griffin has several key differences which change its handling and power distribution.

The first of these differences is off road capability. The battery boxes on the Griffin are rather low—think the EX30. These battery boxes protrude downwards in such a way that they hit rocks, roots, or other trail obstacles much more readily. The stock tire on the Griffin is a CST street tire, which doesn’t provide quite as much traction as one might desire on a trail. Conversely, the Lynx features elevated battery boxes, an off road tire (although Alienrides & eWheels now sell it with a Kenda street tire), and also includes the now classic Leaperkim toe hooks, which clearly encourage rougher riding.

Power Difference

The other key difference which sets the Griffin apart from the Lynx is power. Numbers don’t always tell the full story, and firmware is undoubtedly important, but the 4500W motor on the Griffin is distinctly more powerful than the 3200W motor on the Lynx. This means that while the Lynx might be more power efficient, the Griffin beats it both in torque and in top speed. With field weakening active, the Griffin can top 60 mph, something the Lynx struggles to approach.

Speaking of the Griffin on its own terms, like most Extreme Bull wheels, the Griffin does what it needs to do and does it well. The handle-integrated LEDs create an aesthetic which is recognizable and distinct. The pedals–grippy, the kickstand–beefy, handles–handly. The suspension on the Griffin consists of a 100mm air shock on either side of the wheel, which makes the suspension highly customizable and comfortable. The one thing that doesn’t work well is the trolley handle, which is the same one used on the Commander Mini and has a tendency to become loose, and is awkwardly positioned toward the back of the wheel.

The Freshly Charged Take

In conclusion, the Griffin, while posing as a Lynx competitor, is actually something else entirely, and outclasses the Lynx for street riding with its superior power and top speed. It is aesthetically unique (and not orange), and the build quality is robust. We really like the Griffin, and think its a great wheel for those wanting the best performance for a great price in the middle-weight EUC class.
