Flyer Flex – Accessories!

The Flyer Flex has the most innovative and thoughtful accessories we have ever seen on an e-bike. Our favorites are the Flyer Duoflex, a bike trailer that converts into a stroller in seconds, and the kid carrier with full wrap-around bars (basically a roll cage) for ultimate safety when biking.

Flyer Flex – Things We Love

Accessories: Radio Flyer knocked it out of the park when it comes to accessories. The bike also has dedicated accessory mounts in the front and rear of the bike, and every accessory we attached to the bike fit snugly within the corresponding mounting holes.

Brakes: The Flyer Flex comes with Tektro hydraulic brakes, which from our testing have proven to be the best budget-friendly brakes you can buy.

Torque Sensor: The acceleration curve is super smooth, due to the torque sensor providing power to the rear wheel. However, you have the option in the app to change the acceleration to mimic a cadence sensor, providing maximum power the instant the pedals sense movement.

Battery: The battery itself is removable, and features a nice, easy carrying handle.

Airtag: There is a convenient dedicated space for an AirTag, hidden underneath the battery compartment. If someone were to steal your bike, they would first need to remove the battery from the bike, which requires having the key. This is an intelligent solution to the problem of theft.

Stability: Andrew’s wife has ridden a dozen different e-bikes, and the Flyer Flex is her favorite. It feels sturdy and smooth, and the ride quality is top-notch. The brakes are silent, with no squeaking, which has been a common complaint of hers with previous e-bikes.

Tires: The tires are nicely sized for convenience: a larger tire (24″) in the front for absorbing bumps, and a smaller tire (20″) in the rear so that there is more room for a cargo rack or passenger seat. The tires are also both puncture-resistant, a feature we look out for in all bikes we review.

Flyer Flex – Things We Don’t Like

Price: Most other e-bikes with similar battery and speed specs & a torque sensor cost around $1400-1700. This bike, coming in at $2100-2300, feels a little overpriced.

Suspension: This bike has no front or rear suspension, and no seat post suspension either. Most cargo e-bikes that are priced over $2k have at least front suspension.

Motor: The 500W motor feels underpowered for a heavy-duty cargo e-bike. Most competitor cargo e-bikes feature a 750W motor, and some can go up to 28mph. This bike is limited to 20mph, and 500W doesn’t provide nearly as much power going up hills as we would like.

The Freshly Charged Take

If you’re willing to spend a little extra money for an incredibly stable and smooth ride, plus all the accessories you could ever dream of, the Flyer Flex is for you. We were also impressed with Radio Flyer’s excellent customer service. Our bike arrived with one metal part slightly bent, and they immediately sent us a replacement part along with instructions. We are confident that you can trust the 100+ year history of Radio Flyer.
