Punk Rider Pro Review: Is this Affordable Luxury or a Discount Clone?

by Nathan Schaumann

The Punk Rider Pro is a new compact dual-motor scooter that most people have never heard of. While the Punk brand might be unfamiliar to many, rest assured, it’s backed by seasoned industry veterans from the Hero Brand. With over 5 years of experience in electric scooter manufacturing, their expertise shines through in every aspect of the Punk Rider Pro. It bears striking similarities to the Apollo City Pro, albeit at a more affordable price. Read on to discover what we loved and hated about the Punk Rider Pro, as well as who we think should get this scooter.

Things We Love

Affordable Pricing: The Punk Rider Pro is similarly spec’ed to the Apollo City Pro, sharing the same weight, top speed, tire size and water rating. However, the Punk is priced $300 less than the Apollo, making it an attractive option for those on budget seeking a premium e-scooter.

Design: The Punk sports a distinct design, reminiscent of Cyberpunk aesthetics, with angular lines and a dark color scheme. The light bars along both sides of the deck and stem give it a futuristic appearance, as well as enhancing visibility at night.

Build Quality: The Punk Rider Pro’s construction features thoughtful design elements such as a silicone deck for easy cleaning and maximum grip, tapered kick plate for comfort, and a folding mechanism that securely locks into place for convenient storage and transport. Additionally, its IPX6 water resistance rating makes it suitable for use in various weather conditions. The materials used in the construction allow the relatively lightweight scooter to feel extremely solid, with minimal rattling while riding over any terrain.

Room For Improvement

Headlight: Thought the overall lighting package is excellent, the front headlight isn’t sufficient for lighting up the road in front of you, especially when riding at 30+ mph at night. We’d suggest purchasing an additional light such as the MagicShine 8000s to better illuminate your path.

Single-Button Control: Though the Punk Rider Pro features numerous different riding modes and light options, all are accessed through one button. This means it takes significantly longer to toggle various settings, and could lead to premature wear from that specific button. While there is an app, it is a third-party app that is not proprietary to the Punk scooters, and thus has numerous functions that simply don’t work with this scooter.

The Freshly Charged Take

We’d recommend this scooter for those who are looking for a scooter that can offer more than the 18-mph limited Segway Ninebot models, without breaking the bank. The Punk Rider Pro occupies a large space in the electric scooter market – quick enough to outstrip any rental scooter, but not too fast to cause major injuries. Versatile enough to replace your car on most city trips, yet affordable enough to proved overall net cost savings after a year or so. Happy riding!
