The VSETT 8 is the most affordable scooter of the VSETT electric scooter line but while this escooter is budget friendly it is also rich in features. The VSETT 8 is a single motor commuter scooter that can go up to 26 mph and get about 25 miles of actual use range. The VSETT escooter has an adjustable suspension system and a solid rear tire to prevent flats.
The VSETT 8+ is nearly identical to the VSETT 8, except it has dual motors and both tires are solid. The VSETT 8+ is designed to be a maintenance free commuter scooter with plenty of power to go up hills.
If you love the VSETT scooters but are on a budget, the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ lets you experience some cool upgrades without breaking the bank. In this review we will let you know what we like, the drawbacks, who this scooter is designed for, and what to look for in a commuter scooter.
I have confirmed you can program the NFC key card to your phone and smartwatch to unlock the scooter.

Things I like about the VSETT 8
- No rear flat tires and wider tires
- Much better suspension compared to the ZERO 8, 9 and 10
- Stem light
- NFC card reader
- Rear kick plate with handle built in
- IP54 Water resistance rating
- Comes in an LG battery version
- Adjustable stem
- Locks when folded with collapsible handlebars for easy portability
- Simple disconnect of motors and split rims for easy tire changes
- Satisfying click sound to ensure the scooter is in a locked position
What type of Tires are on the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+?
The VSETT 8 has an 8.5″ by 3″ solid rear tire and an 8″ by 2.5″ pneumatic tire in the front. The main reason why they make the rear tire solid is because it is the most common tire to get a flat. They put a tube in, pneumatic tire in the front to make it more comfortable when riding.
The VSETT 8+ has two 8.5″ by 3″ solid tires to ensure you will never get a flat. I prefer having an air tire in the front because it absorbs the road chatter much better than a solid tire. The new tread and wider tires also make for a smoother ride.
What type of suspension is on the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+?
The front suspension on the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ is a C-type suspension. The C-type, also known as swing arm, suspension is much better than the suspension they used to have on the ZERO 8, 9, and 10. There is much more travel and you are less likely to bottom out when hitting pot holes.
The suspension on the back is an adjustable spring suspension. The front swing arm suspension is also adjustable.
Stem Light for Great Night Visibility
The stem light is exactly like the one you see on the ZERO 9 and ZERO 10. It is perfect for being seen at night by pedestrians and oncoming vehicles. It does not project significant light for night riding, but it will help you be recognized and looks sweet!
Does the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ have keyed security?
Instead of traditional keys, the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ have the sweet NFC card reader to unlock the scooter.
I have confirmed you can program the NFC key card to your phone and smartwatch to unlock the scooter. Just make sure not to let your phone die if you don’t have the spare NFC key with you.
Does the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ have a Kick Plate?
One of my favorite things about the VSETT scooter line is they all have kick plates. The deck on the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ is not that big, but the extra kick plate helps make it not feel cramped. The kick plate also has a hole it in making it a perfect for lifting and moving.
Is the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ Waterproof?
The VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ has a IP54 water resistance rating. This is significant to know, so there is more peace of mind when riding in light rain. However, no distributors cover for water damage. Even the EMOVE Cruiser with an IPX6 water resistance rating is not covered under warranty for water damage.
We did put the VSETT scooters through very wet conditions and never noticed any issues. However, please take caution when you ride in wet conditions.
What kind of batteries are in the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+?
The VSETT 8 comes with two different batteries, a 48v 15.6aH Chinese battery version and there is an LG 48v 21aH. The LG 48v 21aH is referred to as the VSETT 8R
The VSETT 8+ comes with a slightly smaller battery because they have to fit an additional controller in the base of the scooter. The VSETT 8+ has an LG 48V 16aH battery.
Is the Stem on the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ Adjustable?
The VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ are the only scooters in the VSETT line with an adjustable stem. It is adjustable from 29.5″ to 40″. It is an excellent scooter for older children and adults since you can adjust the height to the rider.
Does the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ lock into itself when folded?
The VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ locks into itself when folded making it perfect for portability. With the collapsible handlebars and ability to lower the stem, you can fit it nicely between your legs when using public transport. The VSETT 8 and 8+ have a small footprint when collapsed so it should fit in almost any trunk.
How easy is the tire change on a VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+
One of my favorite things about the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ is you can change the tires easily. You have split rims and you can use the easy connects to disconnect the motor from the controller. Tire changes should be a breeze with the setup.
How do I know if the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ is in a Locked Position?
The locking mechanisms on scooters have collapsed in the past because it is hard to know when it is locked. The locking mechanism is perfect on the VSETT 8 and 8+ because you hear an audible click when it is engaged. The folding clamp will also sit flush against the scooter.

Drawbacks of the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+
- Smaller deck
- Top speed reached was 22 mph
- Needs a better light for nighttime riding
- Turn signals are too low to the ground and tough to notice during the day
- A little on the heavy side for a commuter scooter weighing in at 46 lbs
- A little pricier for a commuter scooter
How big is the deck on the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+?
The deck is 8″ wide and 21.5″ long. The usable space is only 18″ because of the folding clamp on the front 2.5″ of the deck. However, the kick plate makes it feel much more roomy, so you do not feel so cramped.
The kick plate gives the deck an extra 5.25″ of usable space and is 4.25″ wide at the base and tapers to 3.25″ at the top.
What is the top speed of the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+
The top speed reported for the VSETT 8 is 24-26 mph. I did get the scooter to hit 22 mph on a 40 degree day, but I am also 190 lbs. Battery charge, weight of rider, and temperatures will impact top speeds.
If I only weighed 160 lbs and the temperature was 60 degrees or higher, I’m sure I would hit the 24-26 mph reported range. The VSETT 8+ has a reported max speed of 28 mph.
Are the Lights on the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ Powerful enough for Night Riding?
Unfortunatley, the lights for nighttime riding are not strong enough for commuting. However, I have come to peace that 95% of scooters have terrible lights for night riding. There’s so many different light attachments that it’s easy to find a solution.
I expect most scooter lights to be awful for night commuting. The only four scooters that I’ve reviewed that have a bright enough light for night riding is the VSETT 11+, Kaabo Wolf King, Kaabo Wolf Warrior, and Currus Panther.
Are the Turn Signals on the VSETT 8 and 8+ any good?
The turn signals on the VSETT 8 and 8+ are brighter than the EMOVE Cruiser turn signals. However, they are still not bright enough to be noticed during the day. I also find the turn signals to be too low to the ground, so it would be hard to be noticed during the day and night.
How much does the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ weigh?
Both battery versions of the VSETT 8 weigh 46 lbs. The VSETT 8+ weighs 60 lbs. There is quite a bit of weight in the extra motor on the VSETT 8+.
How expensive is the VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+?
The VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ are on the higher end of the commuter scooter spectrum. There are a lot of commuter scoooters that come in at a lower cost. However, the VSETT is filled with features that you won’t find on less expensive commuter scooters.
The VSETT 8 and VSETT 8+ offer a ton of features and I believe the pricing is reasonable for what you get.

5 Things to look for in a Commuter Scooter
- Dependability
- Portability
- Ease of use
- Safety
- Range
Jimmy and I have yet to find the perfect scooter. If you can check off the 5 things we mentioned in the checklist, you will find yourself a great commuter scooter. The VSETT 8 isn’t a perfect scooter but it does check off a lot of the items I look for when choosing the perfect commuter scooter.
VSETT 8 Final Thoughts
The VSETT 8 offers an adjustable handlebar stem height, collapsible handlebars and locking folding mechanism. With the electric braking, rear drum brake and solid rear tire, it will help keep maintenance down. It offers front swing arm suspension and rear spring suspension which should be an improvement to the small spring suspension in the ZERO 8.
I find the VSETT 8 to be one feature packed scooter. The VSETT 8 won’t win any top speed or extreme range awards, but you will be getting an excellent all around commuter scooter.
We have yet to find a perfect electric scooter, but there is a perfect scooter for you!
