Extreme Wheel ES Review 2025: They Lied About the Specs — But It’s Still Crazy Fast!

by Nathan Schaumann

The Extreme Wheel ES electric dirt e-bike has been released, and we at Freshly Charged have put it through a real-world test. This new dirt bike comes from Extreme Wheel, a brand launched by Begode, a name already legendary in the electric unicycle (EUC) world. As a mid-tier electric dirt e-bike, it delivers insane power and features you rarely see at this price point. We conducted a full hands-on review, and while there was a bit of a surprise regarding the official specs, the performance was still quite impressive.

What are the Features of the Extreme Wheel ES?

The Extreme Wheel ES has beefy DOT-approved hydraulic brakes and full twist throttle with a kill switch. The center display shows speed, odometer, voltage, and speed level, but it was hard to read in direct sunlight.

What Controls are on the Extreme Wheel ES?

The handlebars have motorcycle-grade hydraulic brake levers and a control module for turn signals, a multi-mode front light, speed level, and an electric horn.

How Good is the Front Light?

The front light is decent, offering white, yellow (for fog), and mixed modes, good for various riding conditions.

What Suspension Does the Extreme Wheel ES Have?

Our test unit had Fastace suspension. Production models will feature DNM suspension with 200mm of travel. We liked the Fastace, so we hope the DNM performs well and isn’t too soft.

What are the Wheels and Brakes?

The front tire is an 80/100 19-inch, the rear a 90/90 18-inch. The four-piston hydraulic brakes use large 220mm discs with thick pads.

What Motor Powers the Extreme Wheel ES?

A 5,000W base motor (10,000W peak) powers the ES, with a 150A controller (230A max output).

What Are The Battery Specs?

Extreme Wheel claims a 100V system (40Ah, 3600Wh). In reality, it’s a 100.8V peak, meaning an 88.8V nominal system. With a 40Ah battery, that’s 3,552Wh. We advocate for using nominal voltage, the industry standard. Notably, EUCs tend to use the peak voltage rating, as well as Onewheels. It makes it all a bit confusing.

What Security and Connectivity Features Does the Extreme Wheel ES Offer?

An NFC card reader provides locking security. There is also app connectivity allows setting adjustments (field weakening, modes) and firmware updates without complex on-bike menus.

How Does the Extreme Wheel ES Perform on Trails?

On dirt, the ES is a beast. The initial torque is massive, thanks to a large sprocket and the 88.8V system, providing instant acceleration.

How Fast is the Extreme Wheel ES Acceleration and Top Speed?

It hits 50 km/h (around 31 mph) very quickly. We reached a top speed of 88 km/h (approx. 54 mph) in our tests.

Does the Extreme Wheel ES Have a Reverse Function?

Yes, a rare and welcome feature. For a 160 lbs e-bike, it’s incredibly convenient for maneuvering.

What Battery Cells are in the Extreme Wheel ES?

The ES uses high-quality Samsung 50S cells.

Is the Extreme Wheel ES Street Legal Ready?

Stock turn signals and mirror mounts make it easier to get street-permitted where allowed.

What is the Frame Like and How is the Regen Braking?

Its unique cast metal frame gives a distinct look. While we prefer steel, Extreme Wheel reports rigorous testing. Regen braking was effective, though more app adjustability would also be nice.
