gotrax f2 v2

GOTRAX F2 2.0 Review

by Andrew N

The Gotrax F2 2.0 is the best value foldable ebike that you will get for under $900. The bike is eerily similar to the Lectric XP 3.0 but it comes equipped with a color display and free accessories like a folding lock, rear view mirrors, storage bag, and tire changing tool for a $100 less. (There are some drawbacks to it compared to the XP 3.0, and we will dive into that later in the review.)

In this review, I will tell you what I love about the GOTRAX F2 V2 and who should buy it.
We previously reviewed the upgraded Gotrax F1 here.

What I love about the GOTRAX F2 2.0

Accessories: The Gotrax F2 comes with all the accessories you could dream of: a bag, rearview mirrors, tire-changing tool, folding bike lock, and more. We love that this budget-friendly e-bike is loaded with over $100 worth of add-ons.

Display: The display is big, bright, and gorgeous. It is a color display, an upgrade from the black and white displays of the past.

Brakes: We love the addition of Nutt hydraulic brakes. Many manufacturers either use mechanical brakes, or if they have hydraulic brakes they use cheaper brands like Zoom. Nutt hydraulic brakes are excellent and will require less maintenance over time.

Price: The price of this bike is very impressive, and we don’t think there is anything in this price range with comparable specs and especially features and accessories. This bike can also be purchased on Amazon here.

Portable: This bike weighs less than 60 lbs, is completely foldable, and can fit in the trunk of pretty much any car. This is a huge bonus if you aim to travel with your bike in a car without an external bike rack, or if you want to take your bike on a train or bus.

Motor: The power of the Gotrax F2 surprised us – the 500W motor actually has a decent amount of kick, and cruised pretty smoothly up hills.

Brand: Gotrax has been around since 2017, and is a trusted brand with a history of good customer service. This is key, especially for first-time riders who don’t want to worry about the hassle of maintaining and repairing their own bike.

Fenders: While this may seem like a small thing, most e-bike companies, especially on lower-end e-bikes, use plastic fenders. Metal fenders are a nice touch that make the entire bike feel more premium and well built.

Rear Rack: The Gotrax F2 features a rear rack that you can fit saddlebags to, or maybe even put a small child on the back!

What I hate about the GOTRAX F2 2.0

Tires: The tires on the Gotrax F2 are unfortunately not puncture-resistant, and they also do not come pre-installed with tire sealant. This seems like a low-hanging-fruit addition that Gotrax could easily make on future e-bikes.

Speed: Though the 500W motor provides plenty of power, the speed is electronically limited to 20 mph. This is a let-down for adrenaline junkies or those looking for a bit more high-end speed out of their bike.

Throttle: The throttle unfortunately doesn’t work at all when you are in PAS 0, or the lowest speed setting (zero motor assistance while pedaling). This is a complaint we have had about a lot of e-bikes – even if you aren’t wanting any pedal assistance and are wanting a solid workout from your bike ride, starting from a stop while pointed uphill can be a challenge, and it can be nice to have a bit of boost from the throttle to get you going in those circumstances.

The Freshly Charged Take

This is a great bike for those looking for a budget-friendly bike with solid build quality and a good brand to back it up. We were overall greatly impressed by the Gotrax F2 (and its counterpart the F1), and would easily recommend it for recreational bike riders.
