Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus

Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus Robotic Lawnmower – 2025 Review

by Nathan Schaumann

Introduction: The Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus robotic lawnmower is one of the most advanced robot mowers we’ve ever tested at Freshly Charged. It has unique smart features like GPS-RTK mapping and AI obstacle avoidance, all-wheel drive traction, and a quiet electric motor. In our YouTube video below, you can see us set it up in a real family’s yard to see if it could truly replace a traditional mower. Below, we answer common questions about the X7 Plus based on our experience and testing.

Where can I buy the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus?

You can purchase the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus directly from Sunseeker’s official website here or through a few different authorized retailers. Sunseeker’s official Amazon store carries the X7 series (link here).

What is the battery life of the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus?

The X7 Plus has a larger battery than the base model, allowing it to mow roughly double the area the regular X7 can. In practical terms, it’s rated for about 1.5 acres of lawn (around 6000 m²) per full charge. In our hands-on test, we let it roam in a medium-large yard and it handled the entire space with battery to spare. After mowing, it will automatically return to its base for recharging once the battery runs low, then can resume if needed for really big lawns. So unless you have an estate-sized property, the X7 Plus’s range should be plenty.

What is the battery size of the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus?

The Sunseeker X7 Plus runs on a 20V 5Ah lithium-ion battery pack. This is a pretty beefy battery for a mower. The battery powers both the drive wheels and the dual cutting blades. With the Plus model, we got a solid 2+ hours of mowing runtime in our tests (enough to cover roughly an acre or more per charge). It’s a rechargeable battery that lives inside the mower; you just park the mower on its charging station to juice it back up when it’s done.

Does the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus have a removable battery?

No, the battery isn’t a quick-swap removable type – it’s built into the mower’s chassis. You recharge the X7 Plus by driving it onto its charging base, not by popping out the battery. In our review we never needed to remove the battery; the robot handles charging on its own (it drives itself back to the dock when the battery is low). The battery is technically replaceable for maintenance (after several years you might need a new pack), but it’s not designed for frequent removal or swapping on the fly.

How long does it take to charge the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus?

From empty to full, a charge takes roughly 1.5 hours with the standard charger. In our experience this held true – after about an hour and a half on the charging station, the X7 Plus was ready to head out and mow again. The X7 Plus and the higher-end X7 Pro actually use the same battery, but the Pro version comes with a faster charger in the box.

What is the weight of the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus?

Despite its sizable dimensions, the X7 Plus is surprisingly not too heavy. It weighs about 30 pounds (around 13–14 kg). When we first lifted it out of the box, we were actually impressed by how light it felt for a fully-equipped robot mower. The weight is well-distributed across the frame, and there are convenient handles, so one person can pick it up or reposition it without much trouble. In use, that ~30 lb weight also means it doesn’t leave ruts or compact the soil during mowing.

Can the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus climb hills?

Yes – handling hills is one of its strong suits. The X7 Plus is rated to mow on slopes up to 28° incline (around a 53% grade). In our hands-on use, we had a few steep sections in the yard (roughly 15–20° slopes in spots), and the mower tackled them without any wheel slip or stalling. Its all-wheel-drive traction and low center of gravity keep it stable on hills. The official spec in some regions even says up to 35° (70% grade) for the X7 series, which is very steep – though we didn’t have anything that extreme to test.

We were genuinely impressed that it could climb everything in our test yard, considering those are areas where pushing a traditional mower can be exhausting. So unless your “hills” are basically cliffs, the Sunseeker X7 Plus should handle your inclines just fine.

What types of terrain can the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus manage?

We drove the X7 Plus through bumpy lawns, over sprinkler divots, and through thicker grass clumps and it motored through without issue. Its AWD traction and knobby tires give it exceptional grip on uneven surfaces. At one point our test unit’s rear wheel rolled into a little hole by a sprinkler head – but because that rear caster is powered, it actually pulled itself out where other mowers might have gotten stuck.

Can you use a Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus in the rain?

The Sunseeker X7 Plus is built with weather-resistance (IPX5 waterproofing) so it can handle wet conditions. It actually has a rain sensor: if rain starts while it’s mowing, it will automatically stop and return to its base to wait it out. In our testing, we intentionally ran the X7 Plus after a rainstorm to see how it would do on wet grass. It navigated fine and, importantly, didn’t churn up the lawn or slip. The wheels had good traction even on damp ground.

That said, generally you’ll get the best cut if you avoid mowing in active rain or when the grass is sopping wet (that’s true for any mower). The nice part is you can schedule the X7 Plus or just let it decide – if it senses rain, it’ll pause mowing to protect your lawn and the mower’s electronics. Once things dry out, you can send it back out.

What additional features does the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus have?

The X7 Plus is loaded with high-tech features. Here’s a quick rundown of what we loved:

  • Wire-Free GPS Navigation: It uses an RTK-GNSS satellite system combined with Vision AI (cameras) to map your yard with no boundary wires needed. You just guide it once, and it creates a virtual map of your lawn and no-go zones in the app. Navigation is extremely precise thanks to this GPS+camera setup.
  • AI Obstacle Avoidance: The mower has a binocular camera and AI that can recognize and steer around obstacles in real time. We saw it detect toys, a trampoline, and even a dog and gently reroute itself without missing a spot.
  • All-Wheel Drive Traction: All three wheels are powered, giving it agile movement and grip on slopes or uneven ground. The rear wheel swivels and is motorized, which helped it avoid getting stuck and minimized turf damage when turning.
  • Floating Dual-Blade Cutting Deck: It has two cutting discs (total 14″ width) on a floating mount. This means the blades adjust to the terrain, maintaining a consistent cut height even on bumpy lawns. You can electronically adjust cutting height from roughly 0.8 to 4 inches via the app.
  • Ultra-Quiet Operation: The X7 Plus is very quiet – about 60 dB, similar to a conversation. We often ran it at night; it’s ninja quiet and won’t disturb neighbors. You could literally have it mow at midnight and people indoors wouldn’t notice.
  • Smartphone App Control: There’s a full-featured Sunseeker app. We used it to map the yard, set mowing schedules, define zones and no-mow areas, and even drive the mower with manual controls. The app gives real-time updates and lets you tweak things on the fly. It also supports OTA firmware updates and even Alexa/Google Home integration for voice control.
  • Auto-Charging & Rain Sensor: The mower automatically returns to its charging base when the battery is low or if it detects rain. It has an IPX5 rating, and we ran it shortly after heavy rain and were impressed that it didn’t tear up the wet lawn.
  • Safety & Anti-Theft: It’s packed with safety features – lift and tilt sensors that stop the blades if it’s picked up, ultrasonic bump sensors, and an optional 4G module for GPS tracking. The X7 Plus we tested included the anti-theft module, so if someone ever tried to steal it, you could track it (and it locks itself down). There’s also a PIN code lock in the app. Basically, it’s a very set-and-forget mower with all the high-end features you’d expect from a flagship model.

In short, the Sunseeker X7 Plus brings a lot of convenience: it learns your lawn over time, gets smarter with each run, and handles the mowing chores with minimal supervision. We were particularly impressed by how it improved its route each time and how much time it saves for the homeowner.

Does the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus have an app?

Yes – there’s a Sunseeker smartphone app. During setup, we connected the X7 Plus to the app to map out the yard. The app let us drive the mower around like a little RC car to draw the virtual boundary and mark off no-go zones (for garden beds, play sets, etc.). Once the map was saved, we could set schedules, adjust cutting height, and monitor the mower all from the app. In daily use, the app is super handy: you get notifications if the mower encounters an issue or when it’s done mowing. You can also start or pause mowing with a tap, or send it back to the dock via the app.

We found the interface decent – not the slickest ever, but functional after you get used to it. There were a few minor hiccups (some unclear instructions in-app during initial setup), but overall it worked well for us. The app definitely exists and is a big part of what makes the X7 Plus a “smart” mower.

What is an alternative to the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus?

One notable alternative is the Mammotion Luba series of robot mowers (for example, the Luba 2 model, which we reviewed here). Like the Sunseeker X7 Plus, the Luba mowers use RTK GPS for wire-free mowing and is designed for large areas. The Luba 2 can cover around 1.25 acres on a charge versus 1.5 acres for the Sunseeker X7. The Luba is also all-wheel-drive and handles slopes well, and it comes with its own app and smart features. It’s been on the market a bit longer, so it has a lot more user reviews out there.

The Freshly Charged Take

The Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus robot lawn mower is best suited for homeowners who want a very hands-off lawn care experience, for mid to large yards. It has AWD motors, a big battery, strong cutting blades and smart software (GPS mapping, AI obstacle avoidance, app control), and can handle nearly all mowing tasks with minimal intervention. It’s a decent investment ($2279 at the time of writing), but ideal for tech-savvy folks or busy families who want to delegate lawn duty to a reliable robot mower.
